The Swiss Society of Engineers and Architects (SIA) is Switzerland’s leading professional association for construction, technology and environment specialists. With over 16,000 members from the fields of engineering and architecture, the SIA is a highly professional and interdisciplinary network whose central aim is to promote sustainable and high-quality design of the built environment in Switzerland.
Core professional instruments
The SIA and its members stand for quality and expertise in architecture and construction. The SIA is well known for its important work on standards. It develops, updates and publishes numerous standards, regulations, guidelines, recommendations and documentation, which are of vital importance for the Swiss construction industry. Some 200 committees are responsible for further developing these standards.
Working for a high-quality built environment
As an active professional association, the SIA works to promote a high-quality built environment in Switzerland and to represent the interests of the professionals that deliver it. To this end it pronounces on energy, climate and material-related issues, helps to shape spatial development in Switzerland, gets involved in education and training policy and promotes practice-oriented public procurement. It maintains an active presence in the media, offers training courses and legal advice and organises a variety of conferences, conventions and exhibitions on current and future topics.
The SIA consists of four professional groups focusing on Architecture, Civil Engineering, Technology and Environment. It has a federal structure with 19 sections, which ensure that the SIA’s concerns are taken into account at local and regional level. Additionally, we have an International Section for members who are active abroad or interested in international matters. Specific technical issues are dealt with by the SIA’s 24 specialist associations.
